Look at your fellow tradies – what are they doing, and are they getting results?

Do you…

  • Partner up with other tradies?
  • Subcontract parts of big jobs to someone else?
  • Refer jobs you aren’t qualified to do to a friend?

If so, here’s a bit of an experiment.

What you’ll want to do is take look at your partner tradie’s website. You’ll want to pay attention to a couple of things in particular:

  • How does it look?
  • Does it load quickly?
  • How does it read?
  • What does it tell you?
  • How is it laid out?

Put yourself in the shoes of your typical client. Would this site persuade you?

If the answer is a yes, then we recommend getting in touch with your fellow tradie and asking them who did their website for them!

Another thing you’ll want to do is search up your fellow tradies.

For example, let’s say for a lot of your jobs you team up with an electrician based in Doncaster. What you’ll want to do is fire up Google and search something like “emergency electrical repairs Doncaster” or something along those lines.

If your electrician is popping up near the top of the first page, that’s another great sign that they’re partnered up with an agency that knows what they’re doing!

Look up your competitors

Not all tradies are going to have a fantastic-looking website. In fact, many neglect digital marketing for tradies altogether – as such, you won’t always be able to find a great tradie marketing agency through tradies you’re friendly with.

Luckily, that isn’t your only option. You can also snoop around and spy on what your competition is doing!

First, start by figuring out your core business – that means:

  • Specific jobs you want to be called for
  • Suburbs you want to work in
  • Your ideal client – domestic, commercial or construction?

Next, perform a Google search on related subjects. Trust us, getting to the top of Google takes a lot of work. If your competitors are there, then they’re doing something right (not to mention, this gives you a better idea of who you’re up against!)

Okay, now you’ve got your competitor. Once their site has loaded, scroll all the way to the bottom – many will feature in small font a “signature” of sorts saying who built the site.

While not present on every site, many a tradie marketing agency will sneak this in – we can’t help it, we like showing off our work!

From there, you can get in touch with their agency and see if they can help you with your web design, tradie SEO or any other tradie marketing services you require.

Search them up yourself!

Getting to the top of Google takes a lot of work. It’s an ongoing process which can’t be done off-cuff – it needs to be planned out thoroughly, with a tradie-specific marketing strategy to back it up.

If they’re at (or close to) the first result themselves, take that as a good sign that they know what they’re doing.

You know the saying about the cobbler’s children? The same applies to digital marketing for tradies – if a tradie marketing agency doesn’t have a solid website for themselves, how can you be confident they’ll give your site the same treatment?

Oh, and while you’re at their website be sure to set some time aside to look at their testimonials and previous jobs. Be sure to perform a couple searches of their current clients.

This will show you whether or not their tradie digital marketing is working, and how well (read: points 1 and 2 above).

And if all else fails…

… you could just straight-up ask other tradies!
